According to hawks fans I’ve talked to, the hawks biggest issue is guarding the 3 ball, Keon Ellis would fix those issues, having proven his defensive capabilities last year in the play in locking up the greatest shooter of all time Stephen Curry to win the first round of the play in. Looking at the stats, I think hawks fans would prefer not to lose David Roddy since he’s having a career year, averaging 4 ppg on very efficient shooting, but I think Keon Ellis greatly outperforms him defensively and offensively. With this trade the hawks hope to skip the play-in entirely and try to replicate the run they had 2021. They stay active in trade conversations leading up to the trade deadline, and maybe look to make one last major splash going into February.
