(The 2031 First Round Pick is a Pick Swap with Portland getting the more favorable pick or the (higher) pick in 2031.)
Why LA does this Trade: They need help on the perimeter with Brown as a player who is a Tough Pitbull Character and handles the ball well. He can defend sure up the needs of many for this team. Defending, guard help, ball handling, athletic, and defend the perimeter well. Robert Williams if Healthy can be scary and a force next to AD if JJ continues to use two big man lineups. Williams can start his tenure as a great backup center. Even though LA gives up a swap in 2031 they still get a first of whatever Portland's record is in 2031. Finally, Jabari Walker the young guy in this trade who is the son of Samaki Walker who won a championship with the Lakers in 2002. Jabari is known for his tenacity, energy, and defense at 6'9 JJ would love this guy. This is the price and risk to go after a Championship these last very few years of LeBron and AD. Pelinka eyes are on you.
Why TOR does this Trade: For Bruce They save a lot of money this year but trade that off to have the equal amount of money owed next year. They get a second as well with JHS as possibly something to develop.
Why POR does this Trade: They get the better pick in 2031 and a second where LA is most likely to be bad possibly at that time and AD will be retired by then. All it takes is giving up Walker and Robert Williams to LA. LA says Yes. Ultimately, I debate if it should be a Lottery Protected 2029 or Top 10 Protected first. Portland also gets Rui who can be serviceable to the team as a backup or depth piece that brings 3-pt shooting (43%).
