The Lakers were meh last year and changed almost nothing on their roster, but this would give them a big swing. They'd be a team that could use another dangerous perimeter scorer like LaVine, but the Bulls don't need another guard; if anything they'll want to open up playing time for Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu, and Josh Giddey.
This trade ends with the Lakers giving up Rui and some of their last movable picks to upgrade from D'Angelo Russell to Zach LaVine to have a final chance at making a playoff run with a Big 3 including LeBron. It might be pricy, but it's the only realistic star they could get for such a meager package, at least currently.
The Bulls end up with a very simple outcome. They get off of LaVine's big, long-term deal for Ben Simmons's expiring deal, and get a possibly valuable future 1st as well. If Ben Simmons can rediscover some of his previous form on a team with low expectations (in a contract year, no less), his collective playmaking could replace some of what they lost in DeMar and what Lonzo has been too injured to add. Either way, Definitely a good long term deal for them.
The Nets absolutely get better here. Ben Simmons barely plays, and when he does is a weird fit on this team (or any team, to be fair). Their best player is single-minded scorer Cam Thomas, and outside of him the entire roster depends on others to set up shots for them... but there's no one on the team who can do so. Dennis Schroder is the only real point guard they have, and even he has always tilted a bit more towards scoring. Adding two more playmakers in DLo and Gabe Vincent could be desperately needed for the development of Thomas, Cameron Johnson, Nic Claxton, and everyone else on the team. Rui is a nice addition in the frontcourt who can take over for Simmons who would fit much cleaner (and be more available). They might not want to add any long-term salary, but everyone here is in their prime between 26-28, so none of the deals should look too bad or be too hard to move as expirings in the offseason if they do want cap space. A little extra draft capital doesn't hurt either.
