Welcome to the start of a new trade series from kawntent sports. Joel Embiid has recently been talking about being willing to leave the Sixers to win a championship. Will the trade demand be this offseason? Trade deadline? Next offseason? Later? Any of these are possibilities, but it’s worth discussing the potential end of the relationship between Joel and the city of Philadelphia.
The Knicks have been hypothesized to be the most likely destination. As such, it is fitting to start this series off with what I believe is the best package for Joel Embiid for both sides.
Why the Knicks do this:
This trade brings the reigning MVP to the largest market in American sports. The Mecca of Basketball gets a brand new Big 3, years after the old rumor of Kyrie, KD, and Zion. However, this big 3 is just as likely to win a ring - Brunson has made it far in the playoffs and they have the top tier big man that every championship team needs in Embiid. Not to mention Julius Randle, who can either be flipped for another star or be the third option here.
Why the 76ers do this:
The Sixers get extremely solid assets in return for Embiid here. They get two big men who can immediately help fill the defensive gap left by Embiid and can hold the starting spot into the future on a team built around Maxey. They also get RJ Barrett who still has some potential, along with five unprotected first round picks.
Let me know your thoughts on this one in the comments, and include other destinations you’d like to see for Embiid!
