Earlier this month, reports came out that the Pelicans do not view anyone as untouchable. This seemed weird to me because why would the Pelicans be okay with trading Trey Murphy III? Or Herb Jones? But I guess you can't expect New Orleans to do the right thing in terms of building a competent team...
Trey Murphy III is the perfect type of wing for any contending team. He’s 24 years old! A well-rounded player who can shoot with the best of them, who can rebound, play defense, and even be a playmaker at times. His contract is also team-friendly, so again, I have no idea why the Pelicans would be willing to trade him, but okay? The price will be STEEP. Especially after what the Magic traded for Bane. Now, after the report of what the Pelicans want, the Pistons have entered the chat.
️✅ One veteran who can contribute in the playoffs - Tobias Harris. He averaged 16 ppg, 8 rpg, a block, and shot 48% FG and 44% 3P% in the playoffs. And he is also on an expiring contract, so between CJ and Harris expiring contracts, the Pelicans would free up over $50M in the following offseason.
✅ One young prospect with potential - The Pelicans get the young talented player in Ron Holland. Holland is a perfect young player at the age of 19 for the rebuilding Pelicans(Even though they think they can make the playoffs). His defense is already evident, but time will tell if he can develop into a serviceable offensive player.
✅ Multiple first-round picks. I honestly think this is a bit much, but I know that the Pelicans saw what the Grizzlies got and know they can get around the same value. The Pelicans receive two unprotected first-round picks and a pick swap.
With this trade, the Pistons would now have a nice young core of Cade, Ausar, TMIII, Duren. All they would need now is a shooter(Resign Beasley).
