This trade sees the Knicks cough up a hefty package to Brooklyn to entice them to trade Bridges and start their overdue rebuild. Bridges is the perfect final piece for this starting five. Although not a traditional SG, Bridges has experience playing the 2 and brings a tremendous amount of size, defense, and off-ball offense to complement Brunson in the backcourt. Adding him alongside OG also gives the Knicks one of the scariest wing duos in the league, and for the time being while Randle is out Bridges can comfortably rotate into the SF position. Though some may say that it is too much for Bridges, sometimes making the right move, like getting OG, costs more than anticipated but is worth it. I would honestly include more firsts if that's what it takes. The Nets get back a large expiring in Fournier, a solid young player in Grimes who fits the core well, 4 first-rounders, and their second-round pick back. The next moves for them would be to trade valuable role players like Finney-Smith and O'Neale and build around Claxton, Grimes, and Thomas.
For the Cavs part of the trade, the Knicks get Dean Wade who can help fill minutes for Randle while he is out, and is a perfect backup PF who brings great defense which fits Thibs' vision. He is on a great contract for the next several years, making it easier for the Knicks to re-sign OG and Hartenstein. The Cavs get back a younger center in Achiuwa who has shown some great flashes. He could be a great backup center for Mobley and Allen and fits that position better than Wade. They also get back the better second they owed the Knicks in a weird protected pick. Could easily swap this out for a different second if it doesn't help them I'm not entirely sure how the protection/swap worked.
Overall, a 10-man rotation when healthy of Brunson-Bridges-OG-Randle-Robinson and McBride-DiVincenzo-Hart-Wade-Hartenstein is, in my opinion, one of the strongest, most well-constructed rotations in the league and could easily contend for a championship. These trades still leave the Knicks with plenty of draft assets for future moves. I would much rather this happen than gut the team for a bigger star if they became available like Spida or Embiid. What are your thoughts? Is this too much? Who wins this trade? What would you change? Let me know what you think in the comments below!
EDIT: After discussions with Cavs fans, I would include several more second-round picks to achieve a closer value match.
