CamJ is shooting 48% FG 43% from 3 & 90% FT and averaging 18.5/4/3 this year.
Houston has some choices to make and cannot extend all their young talent, and they do not want to have a repeat of being forced to extend a high draft pick only to immediately regret it, looking at you Jalen Green. Smith has regressed this year and Houston is in desperate need of floor spacing and 3point shooting, which he was supposed to provide. Their championship window is opening now and if they want to maximize that oppertunity they need to upgrade this position. CamJ fits this team perfectly, will mesh with Ime and has playoff experience, will open up lanes for Green, Thompson et al and give a reliable shooter for Seng to dish out to.
The 27 pick is just a return of a swap so nothing is really lost here from Houston's perspective or if it is viewed as a loss it's minimal. They have the same number of picks before and afterwards.
Getting caught up on Smith's draft position is foolish, irrellivant and the definition of a sunk cost. This works for all Parties
