Rumors are heating up around the Spurs being frontrunners for Kevin Durant. In this scenario, the Timberwolves step in to help facilitate by sending the Suns a starting-caliber center while pushing their own chips in to land Giannis Antetokounmpo — with help from San Antonio.
Spurs get KD for Keldon Johnson, Devin Vassell, and #14 and two F2RP's
They go all-in on building around Victor Wembanyama, pairing him with Kevin Durant. They give up Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, the #14 pick, and two future seconds — a sizable but not unreasonable package for a player like Durant, but age doesn't require a Future FRP Haul.
Suns get Gobert and Keldon Johnson, #14, 2026 2nd, 2027 2nd for KD
With Durant likely to push for a move, Phoenix pivots toward balance. They bring in Rudy Gobert to anchor their defense, gain a versatile wing in Keldon Johnson, and add a lottery pick (#14) plus two seconds. It’s a value loss on paper, but if their hands are tied, this could be the best stopgap between rebuilding and staying competitive.
Bucks get Randle, Vassell, Rob Dillingham, Leonard Miller, #17, #31, 2026 FRP Swap, 2028 FRP Swap for Giannis
If Giannis decides to leave or signals uncertainty, this is a strong return. They acquire a blend of win-now (Randle, Vassell), upside (Dillingham, Miller), and draft capital (two picks and two swaps). They stay competitive in the East while setting up long-term flexibility and a potential retool.
Wolves get Giannis for Gobert, Randle, Dillingham, Miller, #17, #31, 2026 FRP Swap, 2028 FRP Swap
Wolves bench, for the most part, stays the same with signings of NAW and Reid. We can all argue what they will want/willing to sacrifice for the team to stay under the 2nd Apron all day, but I am not here for that. I am going with the assumption that Reid opts out to sign back for a little bit more money, or he very well could opt in and open up another minimum vet signing spot. WHO KNOWS? If Naz opts in an extends, that opens up more room under the 2nd Apron to sign a vet min PG or C. Brook Lopez follows Giannis in free agency to help wolves center position.
Everyone wins? Who loses? Who wants more? This feels close to the minimum required to get it done — particularly from Milwaukee’s and Phoenix’s perspectives. If picks need adjusting slightly, that can be negotiated. Picks will always carry some ambiguity in perceived value, but this feels like a framework where everyone walks away with something they can justify.
