Wolves get their PG of the future, Cavs solve their clunky roster issues, and Thunder cash in for a Center next to Chet

Timberwolves:

It’s difficult to gauge KAT’s value at this point. On one hand, he was great in the Denver and Phoenix series. On the other hand, he couldn’t make a shot against Dallas. The reality is, he’s less valuable to Minnesota than most teams, being that they have a PF/C coming off the bench that is 90% as good already, and Naz is cheaper. They also improve their salary cap situation. This probably would require them bringing in a vet 3/4, say Nic Batum, Jeff Green, Saric, etc..

Cleveland:

It sounds like Cleveland is moving towards extending Mitchell, and splitting up him and Garland. Here, Cleveland goes best player available approach, rather than trying to use Garland to cash in on draft assets. If Mitchell is staying around, they’ll want to win now. Towns is probably the best player they can get on the open market for Garland, unless Bridges is available from Brooklyn. Trading for Towns would also require splitting up the somewhat awkward pairing of Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley. Essentially, the Cavs ditch Allen for a first next year (honestly didn’t know which one to give them, could be any of them, this years #12 is probably not enough though), and Giddey, giving them a different potential young guard next to Mitchell, one who has shown he can play off of ball dominant guards (until the playoffs at least…). If Bridges isn’t available and the 3 teams are willing to work together, I think this structure makes the most sense for all 3 parties, and the most sense for Cleveland.

OKC:

OKC decided to cash in a bit on youth and draft capital. Rather than using roughly the same amount, or more, draft capital and youth to trade up for a Center in the draft, they get a young, defensive center on a cheap deal that can help them win immediately. Obviously, the best case would be to just draft a Derrick Lively like Dallas did, but that’s harder than it seems, and OKC stops betting on their ability to draft and just goes for it, at least a little bit.

Summary:

The hardest part of this trade is gauging how much Cleveland gets, and OKC gives up. Is it another first, maybe protected for Allen? Not totally sure, but the value can obviously be adjusted.
