Three-team trade idea: Spurs / Wolves / Cavs

SUCCESS

Minnesota gets De'Aaron Fox and finally lands the All-Star point guard they've been missing. While Julius Randle played well, the Wolves' biggest need is a true lead guard next to Anthony Edwards. Moving Randle also opens more minutes for Naz Reid at PF and gives promising young big Joan Beringer a clearer development path.

San Antonio moves on from Fox after a disappointing playoff run and fully commits to Dylan Harper's long-term development. In return, they add Jarrett Allen, Donte DiVincenzo, Sam Merrill, and draft compensation. Allen gives the Spurs another elite defender and rebounder next to Wembanyama, while DiVincenzo and Merrill provide much-needed shooting and depth. The move also creates more lineup flexibility and balances the roster around their young core.

Cleveland reshapes its frontcourt by turning Jarrett Allen into Julius Randle. After another disappointing playoff exit, the Cavs could look for a different offensive dynamic around Donovan Mitchell, James Harden, and Evan Mobley. Randle's value as a physical three-level scorer who can attack mismatches, create pressure in the paint, and force defensive rotations. His presence gives Mitchell and Harden more driving lanes, more kick-out opportunities, and creates a less crowded offensive environment than the traditional Allen-Mobley frontcourt. Cleveland also saves roughly $3.8M in salary.

But

Are the Spurs giving up on Fox too quickly?

Can an Allen-Wembanyama frontcourt provide enough spacing?

Does Cleveland lose too much defensively without Allen?

Can Fox and Edwards maximize each other offensively?

Of course, the trade isn't perfect. The picks and salary filler would probably need to be adjusted, but this is the general framework of the deal.
