We all know the lakers cant hit a 3 to save their lives. Luka and Klay played great together on the Mavs, and Klay would play great off the other creators on the roster (Bron/Reaves etc). Hardy is here to make the money work, but also gives them a true scoring spark off the bench that they currently lack.
Dallas' time table shifted after the Luka trade. They need cap space to eat contracts from other teams for draft picks (classic rebuild path), and to do that they will need expiring contracts. This deal essentially indirectly nets them a pick by becoming a future salary dump destination.
