Trae has talent. The Wizards are rebuilding. It is not a perfect fit on the court, but if I am the Wizards I get Trae, I convince him to sign a reasonable extension, then I let him cook. He rebuild his trade value and then the Wizards flip him for assets in the future. Right now he is not worth much but if you play this right a year from now he could be worth one or two 1st round picks.
