Trade succeeds Jan 15 when Kuminga becomes trade-eligible.
Warriors go all in for a playoff run with MPJ, who is blowing up this year. Give up Kuminga (who they hate) and Moody (who they like). More importantly, they give up their 2028 first round pick, which will likely be high since this will either be Curry's last year or he'll retire after 2027. Either way, they won't be competitive. Nets negotiate hard to make sure it is unprotected. As to Kuminga, they can always cut bait on him either next year on the team option or the following year if he doesn't show something. They need to sign a player at the minimum to get up to 14 players.
Nets were 7-4 in December... too much winning for a team that wants a top 3 pick. They need to get worse, and unloading Porter is their best option to do it. Get upside (whatever it is) of Kuminga, and rotational guard on good contract in Moody. Main incentive is aforementioned pick. Nets don't want long term money of Hield, so they swap him with Hornets expiring Connaughton for a few seconds. They waive Connaughton and someone else (Wilson, Martin, etc.?) to get down to max 15 players.
One big issue with this trade is that Nets have been rumored to be uninterested in Kuminga.
I welcome comments, but please no comments without supporting reasoning (e.g. "Hawks pass".' Don't be a hater. If you’re going to say something, make it meaningful or don't bother).
