Brooklyn Nets Acquire:
Kelly Oubre Jr.
Andre Drummond
Eric Gordon
Pick No. 3
Why the Nets do this trade:
After Brooklyn failed to win the NBA Draft Lottery, they are positioned to pick at No. 8. However, with this deal, the Nets can move up to No. 3 to draft a player with high upside, keep their No. 8 pick, and still accumulate talent with pick No. 26 later in the first-round.
76ers Acquire:
Cameron Johnson
Drew Timme
Pick No. 19
Pick No. 27
Why the 76ers do this trade:
The Sixers acquire a player that can help them in the next two years as they contend for a title in Cam Johnson. The two later firsts that they acquire can be used to draft a wing (ex: Nique Clifford, Liam McNeeley, Noah Penda) and a backup big man (ex: Ryan Kalkbrenner).
The Sixers also save about $4.5M by dealing the third pick away ($6.6M combining Picks 19 and 27 compared to the $11.1M owed to Pick No. 3), giving them approximately $22 million space under the second-apron. This money can be used to re-sign Quentin Grimes and potentially even re-sign Guerschon Yabusele using the taxpayer midlevel exception. However, their whole season depends on the health of Joel Embiid.
