This is only if the Grizzlies season is in the gutter at this time(prob will tbh), but if so, this makes sense for both teams.
Why Detroit does it:
They get a perennial all-defense guy at worst, and a low-mid level DPOY candidate with his elite-level rim protection and versatility when defending the PnR. He's also is a great fit w/Cade between his ability to get to the rim in many different ways(isos, as a cutter/dive-man in screening action, through the post), and his offball shooting(37% on C&S 3s the last 2 seasons combined), and those C&S aren't just open corner 3s either, he can drill them off the PnP, contested, as the trail man in transition, he's even effective on the move, coming off a variety of screens/off-ball actions(horns, flares, cross-screens, pindowns etc.)
Memphis here gets Jaden Ivey, who's an athletic slasher, just like Ja, but younger, cheaper, and with more room to grow/improve, and 3 unprotected FRP. They also take on Tobias Harris's expiring contract for filler
