As a Lakers fan, I’m still trying to figure out why this deal hasn’t happened yet! It makes sense for EVERYONE.

But as always… WHO SAYS NO?

Denver gets out of the 2nd apron while keeping Peyton Watson on his $20M+ contract. They save around $28M, get off Zeke Nnaji’s contract, and get 3 second-round picks plus a young backup guard in Tyrese Proctor who’s under contract and has shown real potential. They keep the athleticism and defense they need in Watson while getting significantly more financially flexible. HUGE win for Denver.

Cavs get the perfect-fitting forward in Cam Johnson for Dennis Schröder and a couple 2nds. They do lose Proctor, which is a real loss, but Cam is a major upgrade over Dean Wade and is basically the perfect player to put between Harden, Mitchell, Mobley and Allen. Plus, their bench is still strong with Max Strus, Sam Merrill, Jaylon Tyson, Mario Hezonja and Thomas Bryant. Zeke also gives them another big for depth. AND the biggest thing: because Cleveland is acquiring Cam through a regular trade instead of doing a sign-and-trade for Watson, THEY DON’T GET HARD-CAPPED AT THE FIRST APRON. That gives them way more flexibility to build the roster and make moves later.

Charlotte does it because they’ve reportedly been interested in Schröder, and they’re only giving up the less favorable 2nd. With Coby White moving into the starting lineup, Schröder makes sense as the veteran backup who can fill Coby’s old bench role.
