Kings trade LaVine to Pistons for Ivey, Stew, and Tobias

SUCCESS

With the whole Malik Beasley investigation going on in the moment, the Pistons are in need of scoring. They tried to fill that hole in free agency with Caris LeVert and Duncan Robinson, but LeVert is 30 years old and Duncan Robinson's numbers have significantly declined over the past few years. Ivey is a point guard being forced to play the 2 next to Cade; LaVine is a more traditional wing who would fit perfectly next to Cade and enhance their scoring significantly. The Pistons would miss Isaiah Stewart, but the Pistons' decision to re-sign Paul Reed shows that they have faith he can take over Stewart's role in the rotation. Tobias Harris is a salary filler to get the deal done; he shouldn't be missed by the Pistons given that he performed significantly under his contract last season. Additionally, the Pistons are trying to win now, and Zach LaVine is definitely a short-term improvement over Ivey who has lots to develop. Even so, the Pistons are still giving up a lot, so it makes sense for the Kings to give them swap rights to the more favorable of their two 2031 1st round picks at the very least. As for the Kings, they are in need of a point guard and would surely love to get an aging veteran making $42M per year, such as LaVine, off their payroll. Ivey is a great for the Kings because he has put up sufficient numbers as a shooting guard without the ball in his hands frequently in Detroit. Now in Sacramento he gets to play his natural position and run the offense. Not to mention, Stewart is a huge upgrade at backup center over Dario Saric especially on defense. And Harris will either get bought out (so they can sign Kuminga) or be a valuable rotation piece off the bench.
