Welcome to another Damian Lillard trade from kawntent sports, the second in the Realistic Destinations for Dame series. In this one, Dame goes to his most common destination: the Heat. However, there's a twist involving a third team. Let's get right into it!
Why the Heat do this:
The Heat are the most common suitor for Damian Lillard, and this package is extremely common: Tyler Herro, Kyle Lowry, and picks. I feel like this is about the amount of picks needed to pull off the trade for Dame. There will be other suitors; the Heat aren't the only squad involved here, so they have to send a solid package, and this is what that package likely entails.
Why the Hornets do this:
The Hornets seem to be setting up a group of scorers around their great passer LaMelo Ball, especially after drafting Brandon Miller. Tyler Herro helps contribute to that setup, adding more shooting and general scoring from a young guy alongside the rest of the developing young core in Charlotte. They don't give up a single unprotected first rounder here, just protected picks, second rounders, Kai Jones, and PJ Washington. This is arguably a bargain for Tyler Herro.
Why the Trail Blazers do this:
The reason the Blazers deal Herro here is because their backcourt is already crowded: Scoot, Simons, and Sharpe take a lot of minutes and there won't be a whole lot left for the others. So, they move Herro in the same deal, acquiring some new young big guys and two more protected first round picks, for a total of 2 unprotected picks, 2 protected picks, 2 pick swaps, Lowry, Washington, and Jones.
Thanks for taking a look at this deal, and let me know your thoughts in the comments!
