New Orleans acquires Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards in exchange for JJ Redick, Jaxson Hayes, Kira Lewis Jr., Josh Hart, a 2021 first-rounder, 2023 first-rounder, 2023 Lakers first, and 2025 first. Even though this is a lot to give up, this is a power move from the Pelicans to compete and make the playoffs immediately come the 2020-21 NBA season. Bradley Beal will provide New Orleans the offensive spark they need to get them over the top in the difficult Western conference, especially when their top two players, Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson, have shown that they can play at the highest level. Furthermore, Beal gives the Pelicans three-point shooting, something needed next to either Lonzo Ball or Eric Bledsoe in the backcourt, as well as Williamson and Adams. With the following starting five, the Pelicans are ready to contend both now and in the future:

Bledsoe/Ball - Beal - Ingram - Williamson - Adams

WAS

Washington turns over a new leaf, and receives four players and four firsts from New Orleans for Beal. Also, three of the four players they receive in Hayes, Hart, and Lewis Jr., are young. JJ Redick would also immediately start at SG, and is likely a better fit since he would be willing to play off the ball way more than Beal in Washington, next to John Wall and Deni Avdija. Furthermore, similar to the Thunder and Pelicans, the Wizards stockpile on draft picks, as assets to build with in the future, which would help them construct a future contender around Deni Avdija and Rui Hachimura. Plus, Hayes also has higher upside, likely, than Thomas Bryant.

New Orleans makes a win-now, power move by acquiring Beal, even if they lose a lot in terms of young players giving depth, a solid veteran in Redick, and draft capital. Meanwhile, the Wizards go full-rebuild mode, and are now completely invested in building around Deni Avdija.

Is this a good trade?

KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS ONLY HAPPENS AT THE 2021 TRADE DEADLINE!
