Trade obviously goes through if Barnes is sent to Denver. Hes waived to insinuate them not resigning Harrison next summer. Note that this trade could also work for John Collins from the clippers instead of Barnes. Or even Powell from Miami.

It’s clear Cam Johnson isn’t going to work in Denver’s system. He’s too good of a player to be playing the role the nuggets are asking him to play and he looks like he’s lost. He would flourish in a free flowing offense where he’s able to create off the dribble and handle the ball occasionally.

First move is trading Cam Johnson for Barnes and a couple second round picks. Barnes is more a spot up shooter, stand in the corner type of guy that Denver is trying to make Cam Johnson out to be. Barnes is used to this role and excels in this role. He would know how to play it perfectly whereas Cam is only learning how to play it.

The next move is using those second round picks and DaRon Holmes to go get SPJ from Memphis. The grizzlies currently have a log jam at PG with Morant, Ty Jerome, SPJ and cam Spencer now joining the mix.

Barnes is on an expiring contract, this move is mostly about clearing cap space next summer to either resign Watson or free up space to sign a free agent like Ayo. The trade with Washington is a move they could make if they obviously choose to not resign Peyton. Getting a small contract replacement like Champagnie then using their newly opened cap space on a good free agent would be the better move imo. With players like Ayo, Keon Ellis, Grimes, and Coby White all being unrestricted free agents next summer, I’m sure Denver could throw 15-20mil at one of them and be much better off than staying with cam Johnson.
