If the Cavs want a change and the Spurs want to win now

SUCCESS

Here's a blockbuster trade I thought up yesterday that, I think, fits all 3 teams well, if they are all committed to these specific directions:

Cavs: The Cavs officially give up on the Garland-Mitchell duo. As fun as they could be on offense, they often overlapped too much in skillsets and create a massive defensive liability. In return, they get a big haul. First on the list is Keldon Johnson, someone who fills a lot of the Cavs' weaknesses. He provides them critical defense, rebounding, energy, and physicality, which could create a much more threatening identity down low. He also provides the team with very efficient shooting. This gives the Cavs a chance to place De'Andre Hunter back into a 6th man role where he likely belongs, or to barter him for a franchise point guard in the offseason. They also get 2 young guards, Rob Dillingham and Jaylen Clark. These 2's value has definitely depreciated, but with the rise of Garza, Minnot, and NAW after leaving the Timberwolves this season, they may just need a change in scenery. Dillingham provides the team with point guard minutes that they'll surely be looking for after this move, and Jaylen Clark's upside as a defender could make him a key contributor from the bench. They also get Olynyk's expiring contract and role to mentor their young bigs, as well as a first and a second. This new Cavs team is nowhere near complete, but it makes a statement: the Cavs are retooling hard.

Spurs: This would be a crazy move for San Antonio. At the expense of a role player, vet, and haul of picks, they get a chance to seriously compete right now. Julius Randle provides the Spurs a new offensive outlet who can score, rebound, and create shots. His presence compliments the duo of Wemby and Fox well and alleviates much of their offensive burdens. He could very well be the veteran presence that the Spurs need to go the extra mile in the playoffs. This would likely be known as a huge hit or a huge miss depending on the Spurs' short-term success and Randle's ability to stay consistent and healthy for the next few years.

Timberwolves: This trade is very straightforward for the Timberwolves. In return for Randle, a useful scorer and facilitator, they finally get an all-star level point guard to lead the team. In return for 2 prospects that seem more and more likely to never gain any starting minutes, they get 3 second-rounders and the chance to reroll the dice. Garland joins a much more complimentary duo in Minneapolis, with Anthony Edwards' physicality and defense covering Garland's weak points much better than Mitchell could. His scoring helps patch up some of the losses the Timberwolves would face from losing Randle. This does grow the pressing issue of bench depth, as the Timberwolves now lack a backup 3, 4, and 5 that they've proven to trust with minutes. Likely this means that they'll have to put their hopes into Beringer and Zikarsky and perhaps a free agent or two.
