Magic upgrade, 76ers diversify, Jazz add assets

SUCCESS

With the 5th defense but only the 22nd offense, Orlando needs to add some scoring, even if it sacrifices a bit of defense. A do-everything forward like Tobias Harris would create for a truly positionless trio alongside Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, and leave opposing teams unable to matchup with all three. He's averaging 17-6-3 right now on excellent 60.3% true shooting, and those averages would probably go up even higher as the undisupted third option on a team with a less-defined heirarchy. They might not want to even start him with how Jalen Suggs and Anthony Black have looked so far this year; but if that's so, then they'll have consolidated multiple little-used bench pieces into a guy who immediately would be the best 6th man in the league. Jaden Springer is more than a throw-in as well, as he's certainly a better prospect (and at more of a position of need) than Chuma Okeke at this point. Considering they only have to give up 2nds, this is a no-brainer.

For the Jazz, this deal is simple enough. Clarkson is a sparkplug vet who puts up points, but his efficiency has dropped even lower than normal across the board. Getting off his money, getting a competent expiring role player back in Gary Harris who can spot up next to the guys they're actually developing, and taking a flier on Chuma, and getting multiple picks all for a backup isn't half-bad. Maybe they push for Denver's protected first from Orlando.

Philadelphia is very deep, and one might expect them to consolidate. But as much as Harris's balanced profile can be helpful, he also doesn't do anything great. He can't guard the Tatums or Giannises or Butlers of the East, and he doesn't carry offenses when necesssary. Clarkson may be inefficient, but he can do the latter. Isaac may be always injured and on a minutes restriction, but he can absolutely do the former. Usually trading a two-way player for two one-way players is a problem, but in the 76ers position, there's not another great solution. They desperately need a third guy that can create his own shot, and they desperately need a guy who can handle big forwards on defense (and relying on Covington and Marcus Morris for that full-time seems like a stretch. Tobias has been good here, but moving him (and Springer, who has flashed tons of talent in limited minutes but just doesn't have a role on such a deep team) makes sense here. Keeping their powder dry in terms of not giving up any picks is a nice bonus too.
