LAL

Los Angeles acquires Devonte' Graham from the Charlotte Hornets for Kyle Kuzma, Quinn Cook, and a 2020 first-round pick. Graham will give the Lakers playmaking, hustle, energy, and floor-spacing (he shot 37% from three this season and consistently 40% over his collegiate career), as the point guard they need long-term. Even if giving up Kuzma is tough, keep in mind he was not the optimal fit next to LeBron and AD this year, and struggled mightily to fit in, next to Davis. Devonte' Graham would be a great fit on the Lakers, especially since they need a secondary playmaker next to LeBron, if Rondo leaves or declines next season.

CHA

Charlotte does this trade for one simple reason- free up playing time and room for LaMelo Ball. Charlotte is in prime position to draft LaMelo Ball this year, meaning that it is likely that one of Terry Rozier or Devonte' Graham gets traded, even if both point guards averaged 18 points for Charlotte this year. The Hornets would have too many point guards if they drafted Ball, with Graham, Rozier, and LaMelo all demanding heavy minutes. Quinn Cook will be a backup to Rozier and Ball, so I believe he would be happier and fit in better in Charlotte in this type of role. Assuming Charlotte views LaMelo Ball as their franchise point guard long-term, Kyle Kuzma fits with him nicely, meaning that they have even more incentive to execute this deal with the Lakers, as they'll be running with a young core of Ball, Monk, Bridges, Washington, and Kuzma.

Is this a good trade?
