Rockets Get: Collin Sexton Jazz Get: Reed Sheppard, Jock Landale, 3 2RPs
Why the Rockets Do It: After the KD trade, the Rockets fixed the last hole on the roster by sending out potentially the worst high-volume scorer in the league for the best one, or at least top 3. The void left at the wing by Dillon Brooks is comfortably filled by more Amen Thompson and Tari Eason minutes, as well as Jae'Sean Tate if he's resigned. What they are missing is a reliable backup point guard with playmaking ability, and buckets off the bench - and Sexton provides both in droves while giving great defensive effort. Houston won't miss Sheppard, who has potential but won't be able to achieve it on this roster, and Landale is a capable backup center but isn't needed with all the other bigs and big wings. They maintain cap space to sign a solid backup PG for cheap, or upgrade at the backup positions.

Why the Jazz Do It: The Jazz have 0 direction as a franchise, with one star in Lauri Markannen who probably won't ever be anything more than a second option. Asset collection should be the goal and getting a high potential player like Reed Sheppard for a player who does nothing for Utah is a great idea. Landale is in as salary filler and could be traded to a contender in need next year, potentially Boston, while the seconds finish the deal and add to the asset trove.
