Celtics: Save $13M on this year's payroll and get Lu Dort, who will help keep things respectable this year, next year when Tatum's back and the team wants to get back to competing, and hopefully beyond. Score.
Thunder: Still loading up on expirings ahead of the J-Dub and Chet extensions which will increase their payroll by $65M or so starting in 26-27. This trade creates $57M of expiring money in summer 2026, which comes most of the way towards offsetting that. On the court, they're taking a risk swapping out Hartenstein for Porzingis, but he is the unicorn when healthy. DFS can do some Dort-y things for a year while they groom Dillon Jones as the replacement. Kleber is expiring contract filler. Maybe they could/should get Knecht from LA, if only for PR reasons since financial moves are never popular. But I think they'd rather save the $4M and give Ajay Mitchell a chance. #28 from the Celtics gives them three first round picks (that they really don't have room for) and potential ammo to cash them in on a move-up or something else. Lakers' 2031 first adds to the future treasure chest.
Lakers: Get the center they desperately need, and pick up a shooter using their MLE. They'll put points on the board but Hartenstein's gonna be busy covering for some underwhelming perimeter defense.
