This is v2 of a largely similar deal I posted in the Hou space a few days ago. Not sure I quite understand the swapping in the update trade machine, but maybe it's being complicated by the prior swap/dealings involving both teams involved in THIS trade. 😵💫
the suns obviously need to clear the deck. two of the 1sts here are returns of their own picks, a bit like the nets accomplished with the rockets last season. the 2029 1st 'swap' is actually a right to ++two++ firsts. both Phx and Hou are involved in the prior, head-spinning swap arrangement. "HOU will receive the two most favorable of its 2029 1st round pick, DAL' 2029 1st round pick and PHX's 2029 1st round pick and BKN will receive the least favorable of the three (via DAL and PHX to BKN; via DAL or PHX to HOU; via HOU's right to swap for DAL or PHX)". the deal here is for Phx to assume Hou's right to the two most favorable firsts of the three (with Hou then receiving the least favorable). Dallas 2029 first looking tasty at this rate 🤦♂️.
given that Book is a bonafide superstar in his prime and early in a max contract, the cost i'm proposing here is exorbitant: 6 great-to-decent frps (it should almost certainly become 5 frps if Phx unwraps a golden ticket on lottery night) and 3 young players of at least some value. there isn't necessarily a ton of value in the jalen green or jabari smith jr stocks, but it's not out of the question that one or both develop a lot in the future, especially in expanded roles (note that this deal should be construed as the 1st domino in a full suns teardown in case that isn't implied lol..). eason is a freaky defender and transition threat. all three could very well be at least key rotation on a future serious phx team if things go reasonably right (there is obviously higher percentile outcomes than key rotation with the former top 3 picks).
for houston, .. well we saw some of the issue in G1. plenty of offensive talent on the team, but the shooting is not good enough, especially without a clear first option guard. while the eason loss hurts on D, amen has generational defensive potential and udoka will keep prioritizing D w his coaching style as long as he's around. on the offensive side, there is possibly a very high offensive ceiling for a book/amen/sengun(/..reed sheppard?!) core.
