Sacramento Kings Teardown

FAILED

Not perfect, but something this big makes it difficult to make it completely fair.

  1. For the Kings, it's obvious this is over; they have pieces they should look to keep, but not many.

  2. For the Celtics, if Jayson Tatum wants to come back as much as he says he does, this gives Boston a chance to make a deep playoff run fueled by the allure of their 26' draft pick.

  3. For the Pistons, Detroit has looked poised to do something in the playoffs for a while, and this move gives them another piece and a familiar face to bolster their backcourt.

  4. For the T-Wolves, it's not a trade many will love, but it gives them two dogs and proven competitors, and some extra size and grit on the wings. Although the shooting may suffer, it's a relatively cheap price overall.

  5. For the Mavs, assuming Kyrie is back, and the Mavs have steadied the ship a bit better than their early-season woes, the Mavs would be jumping at the chance to grab more backcourt depth to help Ky get acclimated.

Lastly, some notes:

  • The expiring contracts of Simons & Harris can be rerouted for other assets, reassessed in the offseason, or simply let them expire in free agency.

  • Also, Conley and Powell will be released after the trade to sign in the buyout market.

  • Although the Kings' return is not phenomenal, they get multiple young pieces, two 2026 firsts for a loaded class, and a building block in Jaiden Ivey. But most importantly, a fresh start and a chance to change the culture.
