Basic Trade Proposal Framework
Note: This is not the final framework, but a starting point for discussions. Obviously, picks and other players could be added as needed.
Cavs Receive: Cameron Johnson and DFS
Nets Receive: Darius Garland, Ty Jerome, and Emoni Bates
Rationale/Thoughts Behind Trade:
The Cavs decide that a Garland-Mitchell backcourt will not be a viable option moving forward and sign Mitchell to an extension, leaving Garland as the odd man out.
The Cavs rebalance their roster by adding size to the wings with Cam Johnson and DFS.
The Nets, who just traded Bridges, lean into rebuilding by acquiring Garland as their centerpiece going forward.
Nets would also acquire Emoni Bates, which stings for the Cavs due to his clear upside and potential. Nevertheless, they make the sacrifice for a win-now mentality.
Ty Jerome is added to the deal for salary filler and helps the Cavs have a bit more salary flexibility.
POST TRADE MOVES:
Brooklyn would continue to tear down/shuffle around its roster as it prepares to rebuild/retool, possibly considering trade options for players like Claxton, Cam Thomas, Bogdonavic, and Simmons (if a market even exists, lol) if the packages make sense.
The Cavs would most likely move to work on extensions for Mobley, maybe resign Okoro, and possibly see what Niang and picks could bring back in a trade, such as a backup center.
New Line-Ups for Both Teams:
Cavs:
Starting Lineup: Mitchell, Strus, Cam Johnson, E. Mobley, Allen.
Bench: Levert, Merrill, DFS, Okoro (if resigned), Dean Wade, I. Mobley, C. Porter
Nets:
Starting Lineup: Garland, Thomas, J. Wilson, Bogdanovic, Claxton (if resigned)
