Reasons for doing it:

Pelicans- They need to blow this group up (see part 1 of it where I trade BI), Zion cannot be a number 1 obviously, he is a great player when healthy but he never is. They actually get a great haul back, a bunch of draft capital and a high-ceiling player in Salaün. They need to get a great pick in this stacked draft class to jumpstart the rebuild.

Hornets- I know what you're thinking, this is a MASSIVE package for the most injury prone player of all time. You would be correct. BUT, it's worth it for the Hornets. They have a bunch of draft capital so it's not making that huge of a dent, and they still get their pick for this year (lottery protected) because they are not making the Playoffs even with Zion, because he will be hurt and they have an awful record. But next year, they would have Melo, Brandom Miller, and Zion along with their other young pieces plus whatever player they get in this years draft, now that is a nice team that could compete in the East in my opinion.
