Danny Green's $10M salary for next season is non-guaranteed until 7/1

Because of the Stepien Rule the Sixers wouldn't be able to make this trade until draft night

Why The Sixers Do It:

The 76ers bench this past season finished 28th in the league in PPG (27.2) & 27th in FGM (10.1), it's clear that they could use an upgrade to their bench. Insert Terrence Ross, who I know didn't have a good year scoring only 10 PPG and 29% from 3. However if you look further into his stats this past season you could see that Orlando's whole objective this season was to develop the young players and as a result T-Ross averaged his lowest shots per game since his 17/18 season (8.8). If you combine his stats from 18/19 to 20/21, you would see just how valuable of a contributor scoring off the bench. He'll instantly give the Sixers a scoring threat off the bench and combining that with two early second round pick in 32/35, and this bench could be much improved going into next season.

Why The Magic Do It:

Right now Orlando has 11 players under contract (9 if you don't count Mo Wagner and Cannady who are non-guarantees) going into next season. Counting the #1 pick and the roster is already almost filled up. There's no point for a team who is most likely going to be the youngest team in the league next season to draft 3 more rookies. That's why packaging those 2 early seconds + a vet who's on an expiring contract and doesn't fit with the team's current timeline to move up makes a ton of sense. Even John Hammond (Magic GM) said this about moving up in the draft, "There's the ability for us to use those picks to move back into the 1st round... we'll see." There's always good player's in the draft that end up falling and if the FO deem that a player who's high on their board is there then moving up to secure that player would make too much sense.
