Smart to Bucks, Portis to Knicks...

SUCCESS

Saw a similar trade and thought I'd take a crack.... Grizzlies just gave up a first, a protected GSW pick, and Ty Jones for Smart in the offseason. That being said, they're up against the tax line moving forward and will be paying Morant / Bane / JJJ moving forward...

Grizzlies trade Smart, an expiring Kennard, and injured-most-of-the-year D. Rose. In return, an expiring Fournier, Grimes (who you can give a spotlight this season & is still on his rookie deal), and Connaughton to start at the 2 or come off the bench in the Kennard role for an extra season (at 5 mil less). They pick up a first this year and a protected 1st (that might turn into 2 2nds) along with the 2027 Bucks pick.

Bucks trade 2 seconds and move Portis / Connaughton. They bring in Precious as frontcourt depth to cover the Portis loss, and upgrade to Smart in the backcourt to help cover for Dame on Defense / run the club when Dame sits.

Knicks send the Fournier-Grimes-1st deal being discussed, and add the WAS + DET 1st / get the unprotected 2024 POR 2nd (which will be high) back. In return, they bring back Burks to manage the offense when Brunson sits, bring back Portis on a 3-year deal to play backup PF/C and as protection in case Randle or a C go out in a future trade, and take Isaiah Stewart to try out - he's valued by DET, but his 15/yr contract kicks in next year and is good for the Knicks to try out.

DET has been angling to clear cap this offseason, and they trade Burks (on an expiring) and Stewart (15 mil against cap next year). In return, they can try out Kennard (and retain his team option for next year), take on Flynn and his expiring salary, so they can clear an additional 15 mil in the offseason if needed or keep Kennard. As draft capital, they get back their 2025 protected 2nd (and it's rolling protections), the 2024 POR 2nd (will be in high 30s), and 2027/2028 2nds, all while retaining Bogs (top trade chip) / their other veterans to keep them or trade for more draft equity.
