Welcome back to another trade by kawntent sports, the third in the Realistic Destinations foe Dame series. This time, the Portland legend is headed across the border to Canada for a package featuring OG Anunoby. Enjoy!
Why the Blazers do this:
The Blazers have a full set of guards including Scoot Henderson, Anfernee Simons, and Shaedon Sharpe, but those three aren't the best defensively. The Raptors fill out their lineup and add perimeter defense by bringing in OG Anunoby. He will get a lot more opportunity alongside developing players because he will be the most polished option on the team, thus Anunoby's wishes will come true. They also acquire a young promising big man in Precious Achiuwa, along with some salary filler and 3 first round picks, 2 of which are unprotected.
Why the Raptors do this:
The Raptors just lost Fred VanVleet in Free Agency and so desperately need a new point guard. They signed Dennis Schroder, but I don't think he's going to be the starter long-term. Here, they get that star PG in Damian Lillard, who brings even more playoff experience to this team along with veteran leadership. Their new post-trade lineup of Lillard/Trent/Barnes/Siakam/Poeltl with a still-deep bench is a solid group ready to compete with any Eastern Conference team, and probably finds its way to a top-4 seed in the conference.
Let me know your thoughts on this one in the comments. I'm not sure why this type of rumor hasn't gained more traction, so I'm interested to hear your take on the deal!
