Ignore the free agent signings first. I think the initial trade itself is fine. The kings offload their aging stars for younger stars. They get the point guard that Sabonis asked for. This supporting cast fits their timeline way better if they’re choosing to roll with Keegan and Sabonis. The wizards get Christian Braun for basically free but have to take Zeke with him. They give up one of their 200 draft picks.
But what free agents should Denver go after once they clear a ton of cap space after the initial trade? They would have a bit over 30 million to work with. That’s a lot and a huge perk of this trade. They could go for one big name but I think filling the roster with competency is the better route. Bruce should already be a lock. Kornet would make a very good backup C if the celtics choose not to pay him. John Collins for 15mil also doesn’t seem out of reach. Utah may be done with him. Clearing up cap space would be huge as there’s a lot of good role player free agents this summer.
Steven Adams, Malik Beasley, NAW, Ty Jerome, Caris LeVert, Clint Capela, Gary Trent, Dennis Schroeder, Luke Kennard, Hardaway Jr, Amir Coffey, Chris Boucher, Jake LaRavia, Dlo, Larry Nance Jr, Paul Reed, Kelly Oubre, etc. I left out the bigger names like Myles Turner or Naz Reid who will more than likely just resign with their teams. But who knows. Also didn’t include anyone with a player option, so that list could get even bigger once people start opting out.
All in all this would be a huge win for Denver.
