Cam Johnson, IND-BKN trade

SUCCESS

IND

The pacers are in an interesting position, they have turned it around, Haliburton has started to improve, Siakam has been extremely consistent but I'd be lying if their aren't a lot of questions with the roster. You're heading into a big free agency and you don't really want to be put in that position at this point in. You have every center in your rotation expiring this year and rebounding has been a huge problem. Now this doesn't address the rebounding of which they are bottom 3 in the league at getting rebounds, but you see regression in their offensive game. Now that does sound somewhat crazy to say about the 10th ranked offence in the league right now and 9th in assists. Now you could attribute both their success and regression with one man Tyrese Haliburton, One of the best passers in the game definitely helps your assist numbers and he can score a bucket, but they were the most proficient offence in the league last year and since then multiple teams have hopped them. Now I think this is due to simple game planning, as with many teams who have slumped after good years, teams have had an offseason to plan against Tyrese Haliburton and get their POA defenders on him and its shown, they've forced him inside and although he's improved as they year has progressed, he had real problems to start. But outside their star player (Unfair to blame one man) they are very young and most of their wings aren't very consistent scorers. Although you bank on these guys progression to become consistent, if you are going to spend big money to be competitive you have to prioritise consistency. Now Cam Johnson supplies this in abundance, he's a great fit for Haliburton, he's shooting a crazy 3pt%, he will find space and if you give him a creative player of Halliburton's level it will definitely be interesting. I don't think I need to say much on the fit and I I'd actually rather talk about the deal. I actually think Indiana should be more cautious doing this. I think Giving up both Nesmith and Obi Toppin (you don't really have any other opportunities) is a deep price for this team, one thing I like about them is the depth and these are too really valuable role-players. Nesmith has been injured but I think he fits the consistent wing role they are trading for, so does this really improve your team that much that you catch up with the top 3 teams, or are you going to hover with the Hawks, Heat, Bucks, Pistons for this 9-5 position. Obi Toppin has seen more improvement in his outside game, he can knock down shots, he is obviously an inside presence. I like him but I don't think he stops me doing a trade like this. And the picks really leave you stuck for a while. The Stepian rule messes up a lot but you have to give up a first in this.

Where does this leave them?

I still don't see them as a major presence, I don't think they gain that much from this trade since you lose so much. I do really think Cam Johnsons value is huge to a team like this, but I also appreciate what Nesmith and Toppin do for you as well. Id really like to know how Pacers fans feel about this, stuff seems to be heating up over there and they seem to be in the sweepstakes.

BKN

Not very valuable picks for them, could be interesting down the line, you could trade this guys for a lot of values and picks. but if you want to tank, idk if you want these guys on your roster.
