Celtics Improve Depth, and Center

SUCCESS

Celtics: Sharpe, Thomas, Clowney, Mann

Nets: Simons, Walsh, Minott, 2026 2nd round, 2031 1st Swap, 2032 2nd round

Celtics decide not to make a huge swing, but rather make many smaller improvements. I think Cam Thomas can simply be a cheaper Simons, and possibly provide even more than Anfernee currently is for the Celtics, but at a worst be slightly, slightly worse. Day'Ron Sharpe instantly becomes, not only, the Celtics best center, but a another young, cheap piece to build around in the years to come. My favorite piece in this trade comes in getting Clowney, a do it all forward that could provide desperate 7th man play for the Celtics. While they mainly get Mann to make the money work, and it's also incentive for the Nets to make this deal that they move off his contract, he can give you some more bench depth, and veteran presence that this bench needs.

The Nets do this trade to get two interesting players in Walsh, and Minott, who could both turn into great defenders in this league. They could even resign Simons if they choose, and if he doesn't demand near as much money as he was. They also get a very interesting first from the Celtics in 2031.

I could see the Nets refusing to send Clowney in this deal, or the Celtics having to add another first, or something along those lines. I really do love this deal for the Celtics, though, and this could easily push them over the top in the East, so if it costs two firsts, I really do think they should pull the trigger.
