They have burned the bridge with Chris Paul and they acquire Marcus Sasser who could be a solid long-term role player for them in a Kawhi-less, Harden-less future.

Why the Bulls do this:

Chris Paul serves as a veteran leader for Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu, and Josh Giddey, hoping they can get the SGA treatment.

Why the Pistons do this:

Sasser has not made his season debut and there is speculation that he will make the team worse (I’ve seen articles titled “Sasser is coming back and is going to ruin everything”). They get a second round pick and a guy who can be sent to the G in exchange for Sasser.
