The LAC's 5th overall pick in the 2026 draft is being traded to the Wizards. I couldn't include it in the trade because it wasn't part of the LAC's draft rights.
LAC :
In the short term, they don't control their own draft picks, so if the Clippers don't trade Kawhi this summer and begin their rebuilding process, acquiring Durant is an option they should consider to remain competitive in the short term. Durant will likely continue to play at the allNBA 2nd or 3rd team level for the next 2 years. They aren't giving up any valuable assets other than Mathurin and the 5th overall pick, and they're acquiring three 2nd round picks this year to maintain roster depth.
Wizards :
They're trading their #1 draft pick for the #5 pick. In return, they're sending away Trae, who is now certain to be unsuitable for a competitive team, and acquiring Tari and Mathurin, who could potentially start in the starting 5 for a competitive team. They're also acquiring Reed Sheppard, whose potential isn't fully known, but who, despite defensive weaknesses, could become a star player in the right team. If I were them, I'd try my luck with Reed instead of Trae. I think Tari + Reed + Mathurin + the #5 pick is worth more than the #1 pick. I don't consider Trae a lost asset because he doesn't have any positive value.
Rockets :
I highly doubt they'll actually want Trae, but with FVV's injury recovery uncertain, adding him to the team would benefit them. They can decide what to do with FVV and Trae, and then draft Peterson or Dybantsa to build a truly competitive young roster. Frankly, I think they should make a trade like this instead of trying to compete next season.
