Dallas: Now that Nico has been fired, the Mavs can begin reorienting the older parts of the roster around Flagg's timeline. Kyrie likely wants nothing to do with Dallas anymore, so moving off of him for positive value makes sense. Quickley is on a bloated contract, but he's a young guy who has been meaningfully good in a better basketball situation for him. Maybe Jason Kidd can squeeze the potential out of him. If not, he's salary filler in a deal that brings in two first. The 2032 is a complete unknown, but the 2027 would replace their outgoing first to Charlotte in the PJ Washington deal. At this point in Kyrie's career, this is a solid return.
Toronto: This trade accomplishes two things for Toronto. First and foremost, it gets Quickley off their books. He's been a negative player at a key postion for the Raptors making far too much money given his production. Secondly, it brings in a premier talent in Kyrie Irving. He is hurt now, but when he comes back he's the perfect theoretical fit in Darko's scheme. Irving is a player who get his team running, and he would instantly skyrocket the Raptors offensive potential. His willingness to stay long term would be a massive question, but Kyrie has always been a great presence on teams that value and feature him. Toronto would do that. Two first may seem pricy given his age, but that 2027 first would be a mediocre asset if this swing works.
