The Hawks Perspective
I think the Hawks core should focus on Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels, Zaccharie Risacher, and Onyeka Okongwu- all players between 19 and 23. Obvs they can't tank and focus on rebuilding around these young guys cause they don't have their first round picks for a few years, so they hold on to Trae Young, De'Andre Hunter, and Clint Capela for now. Instead, the Hawks trade a couple older bench players to build out their young core.
Their starting lineup would remain unchanged:
Trae Young
Dyson Daniels
Zaccharie Risacher
Jalen Johnson
Clint Capela
Then their bench would be Dennis Schroder, De'Andre Hunter, Onyeka Okongwu, Davion Mitchell, Kobe Bufkin, Julian Strawther, Vet Krejci, and Day'Ron Sharpe.
The Hawks don't have a solid backup PG rn, so Schroder comes in to fill that role for this season, hopefully culminating in a playoff push. Davion Mitchell is a solid, younger, defensive-minded backup PG who fits the Hawks' culture and can be their long-term backup PG. Julian Strawther replaces Bogdan's bench shooting and could grow to be even more down the road. Finally, Okongwu is a solid center, but he's a little short for the position, so the Hawks need to find a center that has that positional size and hopefully fits their timeline. Day'Ron Sharpe fits both of those qualifications and can learn from Clint Capela before Capela's contract expires and the Hawks move on from him.
The Nuggets Perspective
MPJ is a great player and fits what the Nuggets need very well, however his contract makes it almost impossible for them to fill holes in their roster which has become more and more of a problem. Sending out his big contract for three smaller ones provides more depth and flexibility for constructing their roster, now and in the future. Cam Johnson is an elite MPJ replacement and I think you’ll get the most out of Bogdanovic playing him next to Jokić as we saw in the Olympics this year. The Nuggets would have more shooters on the bench lineup to put around Russell Westbrook opening the paint for him to drive and pass out to quality shooters. Meanwhile, Larry Nance Jr. is an excellent backup center who can backup Jokic or even play alongside him.
The starting lineup would likely look like
Jamal Murray
Christian Braun
Cam Johnson
Aaron Gordon
Nikola Jokic
with Russell Westbrook, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Peyton Watson, and Larry Nance Jr. to fill out the bench.
The Nets Perspective
This is obvious. The Nets are reportedly looking to sell at this year's trade deadline, so here they offload a couple valuable contributors to winning basketball in return for a haul of picks. I think 3 first round picks and some expiring are a reasonable return for the players they're sending out, however I could also see the Hawks throwing in a second rounder.
The Raptors Perspective
The Raptors core is young but they are close to reaching their prime age range. Immanuel Quickley is 25, RJ Barrett is 24, and Scottie Barnes is 23. They will likely look to stop their tanking days and start competing next season. However, they currently lack reliable shooting in their starting lineup, which MPJ can help remedy.
The starting lineup would look like
Immanuel Quickley
RJ Barrett
Michael Porter Jr.
Scottie Barnes
Jakob Poeltl
with Gradey Dick, Ochai Agbaji, Kelly Olynyk, Jonathan Mogbo, Zeke Nnaji, Jamal Shead, and Ja'Kobe Walter coming off the bench. They have a bunch of young guys that will grow their chemistry and grow their games. They also get Zeke Nnaji who fits the mold of player they look for- a big, switchable, defensive-minded player- and if he can rediscover his shooting, he would be a great fit on a low, long-term contract.
Lmk what y'all think and what you would change.
