Memphis lacks a SF, really their only hole on the roster. With them signing Ty Jerome for 3 years, SPJ should be expendable for the right piece. With Peyton Watson being on the rise, being only 23 years old, and needing minutes to really shine, he’s a perfect fit for the grizzlies. Who also have all the cap space to resign him next summer. Under Memphis development system, Watson would be a 20ppg starter with elite defense. Him and Wells on the wings with JJJ and Edey down low, Memphis would have an insane defense. Watson has the potential to be the best 3 and D role player in the league. Memphis would get him for nothing but an expendable player.
Nuggets have zero money to offer Watson next season unless Cam Johnson is traded for an expiring contract. Which I don’t see them biting the bullet and doing. Because if they do trade him for a Collin Sexton type player, they essentially traded MPJ and a FRP for Collin sexton. As it stands, Watson leaves next summer for nothing. They should at least make a move to get a small contract player they won’t have to pay next year.
