On the Lakers end it is no secret they are desperate for size. So they trade for Walker Kessler who has been in constant rumors and turn him into purely a defensive anchor with no offensive responsibility. They also get Collins who is a perfect lob threat with Luka and Bron.

For the Jazz this is a pretty lateral move. They have said that they won't be tanking and this will prove it. Investing in 3 year contracts with real playoff experience to help lead this team. They also get a first rounder in the deep future for some collateral out of the Lakers desperation.
