First trade - Denver trades Dario Saric and 2031 FRP to Washington for Champagnie, Vukcevic and a second rounder.
With Middleton and Kispert both coming back healthy next season, the wizards will have no room for Champagnie. Vukcevic is on a 2-way contract and they’ve declined his team option in the past. I doubt they value him much. So the wizards get an expiring contract + a valuable FRP for two players that won’t be of any use.
Second trade - Denver trades Peyton Watson, Zeke Nnaji and 2 second rounder picks to Brooklyn for De’Anthony Melton.
With all the salary shed, Denver then signs Bruce brown to the MLE, who is basically begging to come back to Denver at this point. And they get Marvin Bagley or Paul Reed on a minimum.
PG - Murray / Melton / Bruce
SG - Braun / Bruce / Champagnie
SF - MPJ / Champagnie / Strawther
PF - Gordon / Holmes / Vukcevic
C - Jokic / Bagley / Holmes / Vukcevic
With these moves Denver has all the flexibility and depth they could possibly need. As of now they need a backup PG, a backup center and a backup PF in case Holmes doesn’t work out. If he doesn’t, they’re screwed and their only other PF option is Zeke nnaji. That’s a lot banking on a guy we’ve never seen play in a NBA game yet. Vukcevic handles that issue.
Melton handles the backup PG issue.
And Bagley or Paul Reed handles the backup center issue.
When MPJ is stinking it up, Champagnie or Bruce can be slotted in. Champagnie is a great shooter, a great defender, a great rebounder, and an all around hustle do-it-all kind of guy. Bruce obviously the same. Or if the other team is leaving Braun wide open and he’s struggling, bring in Champagnie at shooting guard. He gives better spacing and probably even better defense. These roster moves give Denver all the adjustment potential they’d need.
