Why for Phx?
Moves on from Ayton saga as his offense isn’t need as much anymore, adds depth, adds primary ball handler, and secures some draft compensation for future years or assets to trade later. Sign a few vets from last year’s team to round out bench. Also, gives a pick for this year to help round out the team and develop a 3rd string guard or forward.
Why for Charlotte?
Ayton can feast in this environment. On a bad year, he walks on court and gets 18/10 and gets a team of Ball, Scoot (drafted 2), him and co to the playoffs in the East for years to come. Charlotte would be banking on Ayton's potential. At 24 years old with his skill set and being the #2 option, this seems like a safe bet though. They move guys they don't need, address a position of need, and swap out a player at a position of abundance. Only real cost here for them imo is future draft capital but those picks could be low anyway if they can keep at least Ayton and Ball into the future. Also, it’s kind of a splashy move for them which I think might be wise in terms of engaging their fan base. Still leaves a lot of room to sign someone or multiple players in FA as well.
