We're all aware of the potential Giannis deal happening at some point and the draft lottery has made it a lot easier to narrow down who will be able to trade for the former MVP. The trade above is what I feel is the best Giannis trade out there after the lottery. Let me know your thoughts.
Why They Do It
MILWAUKEE: The Bucks could not rebuild unless they got control of their future picks back, a similar situation to Atlanta. In this deal, they gain back control of those future picks from New Orleans while adding on 4 more from San Antonio including Pick 7 in this year's draft. With that pick this year, they add talented young pieces in Devin Vassell and Jeremy Sochan. They are well positioned after this deal to begin a healthy rebuild with an established young core in year 1. They could also tank harder and move some of these players for even more draft capital. Suddenly, the Bucks go from having zero flexibility, to plenty.
SAN ANTONIO: Not much to say here. They acquire a top 3 talent in the entire world and don't have to give up anyone from their core of Wembanyama, Fox and Castle. Adding Giannis to those 3 is a terrifying prospect for the rest of the league. This is a no-lose situation for the Spurs to begin the post-Pop era.
NEW ORLEANS: The Pels are in a weird position. While they held Milwaukee's future, it's clear Giannis wouldn't want to go there, and the Bucks are going to send Giannis to a contending situation. Instead, they maximise their assets and use this as an opportunity to move up in the draft. They now position themselves to take Dylan Harper, the 2nd best prospect in the country and the PG of their future. With CJ McCollum nearing the end of his tenure and the Dejounte Murray experiment becoming a complete disaster, this is the best-case scenario heading into next season. With Murray out for a year, this is an easy selection for the Pelicans to make, solidifying the future of their franchise and possibly give Zion Williamson the partner in crime he's desperately needed.
