Inside the Logic of a Proposed 5 Team NBA Trade
Denver Nuggets: The "Lockdown" Move
They get Herb Jones, arguably the best wing defender in the league, to pair with Aaron Gordon after the bold statement of McDaniels about their defense. While losing Christian Braun hurts their depth, Jones is a playoff ready "3 and D" monster who fits perfectly next to Jokic. They also recoup long term draft capital (2031/2032) to keep their window open as their core ages.
New York Knicks: Young Energy & Continuity
The Knicks move off Mikal Bridges massive extension to get Christian Braun, a younger, cheaper, and highly energetic wing who fits Mike Brown defensive grind. Also Knicks lacks rim scorer and explosiveness in thier team as Brunson is more of outside shooter, Hart playing more of a defensive player and OG playing much of defensive guy and 3pt shooter lacking explosiveness inside the paint. Adding Isaiah Jackson gives them a high upside backup rim protector, which they’ve lacked. The 2031 Clippers 1st rounder is a huge "lottery ticket" asset for when the Clippers' current era ends.
LA Clippers: Win Now Star Power
After a disappointing Play In exit, the Clippers get the best player in the deal: Mikal Bridges. He gives them an elite ironman who can score and defend alongside their stars. Adding Yves Missi provides a young, athletic center prospect to develop for the new Mathurin-Garland era or post Kawhi era.
Memphis Grizzlies: Asset Collection
Memphis is in a soft "reset" after a 25 win season. Moving GG Jackson is a gamble, but they acquire Zeke Nnaji (a mobile big who fits their bench) and three future 2nd round picks. This is likely about clearing a roster spot and building a chest of picks for a future "big swing" trade.
New Orleans Pelicans: Veteran Scoring & Potential
After finishing 26-56, the Pelicans need reliable shooting. Bogdan Bogdanovic provides elite spacing that their young core lacks. More importantly, they land GG Jackson, who is one of the most exciting young scorers in the West. Also Bogdanovic expiry contract gives financial flexibility coming forward next season. Anyhow, trading Herb Jones signals a shift toward a more offensive minded rebuild around their younger talent.
