I think the mavericks are in a weird spot having the number 1 pick in the draft Cooper Flagg, to build around their franchise, but at the same time have enormous amounts of win-now talent on their roster. I think that Upgrading from AD to get someone of Giannis's caliber, would put them as a front runner to win this year, and the next few years. All while still having young players for the future, in Flagg, Max Christie, Lively.

A starting lineup of Kyrie Irving - Max Christie - Cooper Flagg - Giannis - Myles Turner is a terrifying idea for opposite teams. Where you pretty much have no faults other than maybe inconsistent spacing, at least while in Flagg's rookie year, because he's been up and down.

Then filling a bench with 6th man PJ Washington an all around player, that gives you everything. A shooting wing in Klay Thompson, a veteran who's been there and is capable of hitting 5+ threes on any given day. The defensive wing in Caleb Martin who although has had a really bad start as a Maverick (likely do to recovery from hip injury) is starting to find his form, as a slashing, defensive hooper that any winning team would love. Then back up guard play in the form of a lighting fast rim runner Brandon Williams and playmaking orchestrator rookie Ryan Nembhard (who they sign to a contract). Then the backup Center play from veteran Dwight Powell and young rim running, elite shot blocker rookie Moussa Cisse (who they also sign to a contract). The back up center play would be, a little lacking, because The franchise's Center of the future Derrick Lively is out for the season because of an ankle surgery. This year, they would have to get smart with how they play their lineups. Like playing Giannis at center, which I'm sure they would, and playing small ball with PJ Washington and Flagg, utilizing their big wing depth.

Also they could address their back up center, if they don't trust Cisse or Powel to fill the role, in the trade market. They also could maybe keep Gafford in the trade for Giannis. I mean this exact trade is just an idea, there are many ways this could go down.

I think that the Mavericks are at the crossroads, and have to choose whether they want to tank this season for the draft or try to salvage their rocky start to the season. I personally think they tank route is the better way to go, unless a deal like this for the caliber of player Giannis is, is on the table.
