They aren't having much success with their current team. Especially with the suspension of Ja Morant, they won't have too much success next season, so it could be wise to try and build up for a championship roster later on (3-4 years down the road) which would be achievable with the Rockets' 20th pick, the Nets frp next year, and a young rising star in Jalen Green.

With this deal, the Rockets' new lineup would look like this:

This deal would immediately make the Houston Rockets championship contenders. This lineup offers elite playmaking and scoring in Harden, elite shooting in Bane, and promising young talent that will only continue to improve exponentially over the four years where the Rockets could make a championship run with the Harden signing and the Bane trade. Additionally, they bring in some great veteran experience to guide the team in Harden, Plumlee, and Ingles. Finally, they get rid of the shot-chucking, low basketball IQ turnover machine in Jalen Green. This team could legitimately run this 10-man rotation in a playoff run, as they now have an incredibly deep bench. The great nature of this deal is that there are four different opportunities to win a championship (four years that Harden and Bane are on a contract), and every time, the team gets better due to how young and talented they are.
