Denver: This should be the start of Denver moving toward a younger, cheaper roster. They save around $7M by swapping for Obi Toppin, who can be seen as a mini Aaron Gordon — athletic, runs the floor and can stretch the court. Instead of spending big money on depth, Denver should focus on surrounding Jokic with young athletes and shooters. I’ll make a separate post going deeper into this. Indiana: Cam Johnson makes a lot of sense because he’s simply a better and more proven fit. He gives the Pacers shooting, size and versatility on the wing. Moving Jarace Walker also makes sense: if you’re not fully convinced enough to give him an extension, getting a first and two seconds now is better than committing long-term. Charlotte: Charlotte gets a young player in Jarace Walker in exchange for picks. For a rebuilding team, that’s a worthwhile gamble. If they can unlock the player people expected Walker to become, it could easily be worth giving up those picks.
