Literally everything lines up, the Bucks would just need to waive one player (which I’m sure would be the second Antetokounmpo sister).
People might ask “why try to compete with OKC / why not wait longer into Wemby’s career?” but honestly there’s never not a time to make a run at a ring. The Spurs are already a super competitive team, this move would put them right on par or close with OKC and all it takes is one injury to OKC (or another nagging Chet injury) - and I’d argue the Spurs would be better.
Also Wemby is already a top-5 player in the league - yeah they probably have a 10-15 year window ahead with him at least but making a move for Giannis now wouldn’t sacrifice a second iteration of a championship contender in San Antonio later.
And for the Bucks, this should be a no brainer. Giannis goes out of conference. You get four 1st-rounders in return - some of which (like the 2030 swap) might be really valuable + the #2 pick in this past draft (Harper). Also Barnes’ contract is off the books in four months and if Keldon Johnson can revitalize himself during a contract year next year, you might even be able to move him for more pieces back. Who knows.
Would love to hear thoughts.
Peace!
