Why do the 76ers do this?
This 76ers team isn't getting past the second round. We've seen them try again and again, but they simply can't build a championship team around Embiid. Everything always seems to go wrong come playoff time. They need a rebuild and this trade grants them with 7 more FRP to kickstart their rebuild.

Why do the Clippers do this?
The Clippers' championship window is closing rapidly. Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are aging and often injured. This move is a last second desperation move to try and win a title before it's too late. It's a boom or bust move but they have to take the risk at this point.

Why do the Knicks do this?
The Knicks were a very solid team this season, winning a playoff series. However, it's clear that they aren't winning a title with this squad. A team built around Jalen Brunson isn't good enough to win it all. Enter MVP Joel Embiid. The Knicks have shown throughout the last couple years that they want a superstar, being linked with every major star that's been available. Embiid moves to a big market franchise with 2 other all tar caliber players around him. The fit isn't great but the Knicks won't care.
